Appearance

Miri is slightly below average height and build. They have a pale complexion and blue to pink eyes with white flower shaped pupils and dyed cherry red hair with subtle black highlights. They are mostly seen wearing a black lace eyepatch over their left eye an “ X ” design on the front. They also have a small fang on the right and several piercings on their ears.

Personality

Described as “scatterbrained” and “wears their heart on their sleeve” Miri is generally able to get along with people due to their polite and sweet attitude , despite being shy and having an extremely low self esteem. He often struggles to read the mood of a situation and as a result , occasionally does things that have no effect or make things more complicated despite wanting to avoid trouble and leading them to getting nervous easily. She's weak to tearjerkers, crying very easily even when they’re happy and is known to be stubborn and as a result worries they aren’t taken seriously. Before warming up to someone, they may appear cold and show little expression.Miri also likes cute things and cute people , but wants to be seen as "cool" by others and works on their persona and claiming to have a hidden “curse” to achieve this, causing others to liken them to a chuunibyou. Her ideas and poetry for new songs in NewDi are normally teased or rejected, for being a little too eccentric or weird. They also often complain about work and hates doing fanservice because it’s “embarrassing”, despite their laziness towards work, they end up overworking themselves frequently.People often think they are naive, having a past with their good intentions used against them. He also struggles with confrontation too in fear of it having negative consequences. Miri is also a pretty poor liar due to inconsistency , prone to making things up regarding their persona, people have noticed this and when questioned about it they end up rambling and sweating nervously to try and maintain the story about their cursed eye, which no one actually believes. They are also quite literal, jokes often go over their head and they are told they are gullible and endearing, which they don’t particularly like hearing assuming it’s meant in a condescending way.Miri has a bitter side their personality due to insecurity, envy and their past. She is ashamed of his bad traits , realising that there is a difference between the person they are and the persona they show to people, he worries that he is a bad person for hiding this due to wanting to be liked by others and perceived positively. They are often associated with flowers and likened to a small blossom that is growing and blooming into something they can be proud of and healing from the past.

Etymology

Their name Hanamori is written with the kanji for flower 花 ( hana ) and guardian 守 (mori) so their family name literally translates to “flower guardian”
Due to how their first name is written it is phonetic but without inherent meaning.

Trivia

• Their eyepatch is just an accessory to look more mysterious and cool and part of their persona, but they rarely remove it.
• She loves collecting random things from books to rocks to buttons and ribbons and hair clips (especially if they’re strawberry themed) and hates throwing things away because she feels guilty about it.
• They are very sensitive to sound, too much noise and loud sudden sounds really overwhelm him, so he isn’t a big fan of busy public spaces or thunderstorms and sometimes even being on stage to perform still requires a lot of effort and mental preparation but they don’t mind.
• They choose a lot of bunny themed accessories because they think bunnies might make them seem less intimidating after being told that first years were afraid to approach them.
• Despite being physically affectionate with friends by hugging and linking arms , they aren’t very fond of physical contact unless they’re the one initiating it.
• She is distantly related to Tsukasa and Kohaku, they treat them both very affectionately despite history between their branch families.

Although being the same age and in the same year at school, Miri treats Anzu like one of their senpai, they look up and admire Anzu greatly and secretly wishes to be more like her and win her affection. Miri fusses over Anzu’s wellbeing and likes to take her out to have fun together and have a break from work. They sometimes get a little jealous at how popular Anzu is since it’s harder to get her attention and they were jealous at the fact Anzu’s words of affection were for all the idols she worked with and not just something more personal for them. Miri feels guilty asking Anzu for help and will normally avoid it despite loving the idea of Anzu helping them because they don’t want to take advantage of Anzu’s hard work. Ever since they met during Wondergame Miry was highly suspicious of Ibara and doesn’t trust him one bit. They later assumed that Ibara’s cunningness must be an act or a persona of kind and therefore doesn’t hold it against him too much. Since joining Ibara Lecture their relationship has improved significantly , but they still consider each other rivals due to being producers of different agencies which encourages friendly competitive banter. Miri wouldn’t admit this but they admire Ibara and wish to organise a collaboration together one day.Jun Sazanami
Miri and Jun get along well due to them both being interested in manga and they both enjoy strawberries. Miri appreciated how kind and polite Jun is and how he’s extremely hardworking. The two consider each other good friends.Shu Itsuki
Miri used to find Shu quite intimidating and avoided him for a lot of their time at Yumenosaki. Shu caught them sewing their idol costume and was rather impressed with their level of skill, but took it off them and showed them how to sew the seam properly. Miri was a little confused because they couldn’t tell if Shu was annoyed at helping them or not , but they were so impressed with the seam that they went back to Shu asking for more advise with making outfits. Shu insisted he would be a strict teacher yet Miri begged him to teach them more. They still remain very grateful for what they learnt and the two are on good terms.Mika Kagehira

Initially the two didn’t get along that well because Miri thought Koga was loud and annoying and Koga thought that Miri was an annoying chunnibiyou that talked too much, but there was never any serious conflict between them as it was mostly lighthearted teasing on Miri’s side. They bonded over enjoying similar music and Miri eventually asked Koga if he could teach them to be more “cool” like him. The two are very close friends and treat each other akin to siblings, they hang out when they get the chance and support each other as idols.
Miri met Nazuna back when he was part of Valkyrie when they were a first year and Nazuna was a second year. They were both in similar situations and bonded over their struggles and found comfort in their blossoming friendship during these times. Even though things weren’t the best for either of them and they were quite different people, Nazuna was grateful for Miri’s support and Miri was happy to have someone who didn’t treat them like a bad person.
Miri relied on Nazuna a lot back during their time at Yumenosaki and they still harbour a sense of guilt about it. Miri feels they’d probably be the same person they were as a first year if Nazuna hadn’t helped them and befriended them. They want to repay Nazuna’s kindness to them by helping him look out for the other members of Ra*bits when he can’t. Nazuna told them he wasn’t interested in any kind of “repayments” and that the best reward was watching Miri grow as a person and an idol and make more friends. Hajime and Miri get along really well having spent a lot of time together when Miri was a Yumenosaki student. They had bonded over their similar backgrounds back at home and always offered one another a helpful hand. The two only briefly knew each other during childhood due to Miri’s family being another branch family of the Suous. There was a bit of hierarchy between them due to the different status and upbringings between their families which caused Miri to feel envy towards Tsukasa for most of their life. As soon as Tsukasa became a first year at Yumenosaki, Miri worried that people were only trying to befriend them to get to him. After this was revealed to indeed be the case with some people, it caused a misunderstanding in their relationship since they were not honest with Tsukasa about this and took out their frustrations on him which they felt awful about afterwards and pushed him away to avoid confrontation. Since then, their relationship has improved and although there is still tension between their families due to how the Suous treat the branch familes, Miri loves Tsukasa dearly and treats him as a beloved sibling than a distant cousin and tries their best to look out for him, they still however harbour a lot of guilt for their actions.
Presently, Tsukasa treats Miri in a similar way he treats Kohaku and since he’s now the head of the Suou’s , he hopes to fix the tension and have the branch families treated more equally and supported. Before they met properly in their second year, Miri had mostly heard rumours surrounding Natsume regarding the five eccentrics , so they weren’t really sure what to make of him since they assumed Natsume wouldn’t remember their last encounter during their first year and they were still new to NewDi.
Initially their meeting was hostile when Miri unintentionally barged into the secret room after the student council asked them to help find Natsume who was skipping classes. Natsume took the opportunity to distract them and pretend he was going to curse them and he teasingly challenged their “magic”, which made them annoyed because they had believed he really would curse them. They went on to be something like petty rivals, insisting they couldn’t stand one another, but there was never any serious dislike between the two of them.
Their relationship improved considerably since Miri was interested in the kind of magic Natsume practised and found Natsume was very peculiar since they were often jokingly mean each other , but Natsume was very willing to help them out or offer advice when they needed without compensation which Miri couldn’t understand. The two became friends and Natsume saw a lot of his old self in Miri when they made their own script and had a desire to “save” Newdi and others , which ignited a desire to want to look out for them and try make sure their dream didn’t end up like his back in his first year. He offered his help towards their temporary unit, which they also couldn’t understand why and the two worked together for that period of time , Miri was extremely appreciative for this. Their relationship improved a lot and they came to realise they actually had a lot in common and really enjoyed being friendly with another and enjoyed being on stage with each other, happy to watch one another improve whilst still being a little competitive.
Presently, they consider each other close dear friends and spend a lot of time together and are both grateful for one another, but neither would admit this.Tsumugi Aoba
Miri is grateful to Tsumugi for all his hard work as NewDi’s vice president and all the help he’s given to them as a Newdi producer/idol. Since Miri’s ideas are often rejected, Tsumugi will try find a solution to adapt in some way so it can be accepted. Miri was really worried about how Tsumugi’s workload and mental health as well as NewDi’s financial state back when they were struggling which was what made them put in a request for their temporary unit and let them organise it all by themselves so Tsumugi could take a break.Sora Harukawa
Miri absolutely adores Sora and always makes sure that he feels comfortable and okay and the two are very good friends. She often tells Sora that he’s her favourite Switch member and often worries about him. Miri has complicated feelings towards Madara, they believe he a kind and friendly person as he comes across but they’re also a little suspicious of him especially when double face was active. They were mostly concerned about Kohaku, who gave him very little information as to what they were up to, causing them to worry a little. Miri thought that Yume was absolutely adorable when they first met and committed themselves to be a reliable senpai under the same agency and was pretty thrilled they had similar family names, insisting on treating Yume like a little sibling. After appearing as a featured guest for Akatsuki’s live and Ibuki kindly turning down Keito’s offer to join the unit, he wasn’t really sure what he wanted to do, whether to go solo or look at his other options. Miri offered him a spot in their unit to see how he felt being in a group with them and help Ibuki figure out his options and see what he was most comfortable with. Despite having only recently met, Miri is very determined to look out for Ibuki and looks forward to working together.

History
Before entering Yumenosaki Miri always struggled with expressing their feelings and making friends, they showed little expression and their blunt way of speaking made people think they were rude, leading most kids to avoid them during their early childhood. They had always enjoyed idols and performing as they were a source of entertainment and comfort for them which lead them to enrolling into Yumenosaki in hopes to turn their life around and have a fresh and bright start from their rough middle school life.As a first year they were selected to be part of an idol group called Amaryllis. An ambitious and refined group that prided themselves on taking idol work and competition very seriously, they asked Miri to join them because of their passion for writing song lyrics and desire to become an idol and they knew Miri was on good terms with the student council. Unfortunately, they were mostly taking advantage of Miri because they were very easily influenced and Amaryllis’s leader thought Miri’s lack of expression fit their unit and encouraged Miri to suppress their feelings and do what they said because that’s how they would succeed. Miri , having no real experience with friendship and eager to impress them, just assumed this is how friendship worked and allowed themselves to be used by the other members of Amaryllis and worked extremely hard with practicing and writing lyrics for them. They believed that this is what they wanted and had hoped for.During the war , Amaryllis were put against other groups during the Dreamfes , for the most part they were pretty successful and crushed a lot of other idols during the competition without caring for the consequences and those who failed, contributing towards the devastation that the war caused on many students. Miri didn’t feel anything when this happened however, they really believed what they were doing was just winning like their leader wanted and didn’t understand the harm in that. Though they didn’t understand the odd sense of guilt after each win and why it never felt satisfying. This didn’t last terribly long however as Amaryllis were put against Chess and ultimately met their match. The loss didn’t go down well at all within Amaryllis as they struggled to maintain their position in dreamfes, causing a lot of internal tension within the unit as Miri struggled to keep them together out of fear of losing their friends. This only increased the pressure for perfection for the unit, leading them to work harder and harder and burn themselves out right until the end of dreamfes where it had all meant nothing and they were in the same position as the units they’d ruthlessly crushed within competition. Miri felt they had hit rock bottom, they had only been manipulated and used as a way to make the dreamfes system work, desperate for someone or something to blame, they resented Chess for hurting their friends although deep down they knew it wasn’t their fault.Right on the last day of their first year they had
